Eleven (!!) new digital releases appeared on Bandcamp today! Jack’s record label (Brizo Media Group) is currently releasing “The Archives Series” – new albums made from old out-of-print releases, bootlegs, demo sessions, live recordings and previously unreleased tracks from Jack’s long career in the music industry.

DaveVanRonk_MilwaukeeBluesPerhaps, most interestingly, is that “Milwaukee Blues” was released today. This is an official free release of a live bootleg album which Jack produced and engineered of folk music legend Dave Van Ronk. Recorded in 1999 at the Miramar Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this album was from a recording made during the tour Jack was on as opening act support for Van Ronk.

Here are the additional latest releases from “The Archives Series” by Jack Norton…

“Slow Dirges Full Of Hate” (LP) – reissue release (includes phone calls to Jack from Hubert Selby Jr., Jandek and Tom Waits)
“The Cabaret – Live” (EP) – bootleg

“Acoustic Interlude – Live” (LP) – bootleg

Two recently released titles were expanded today as well. They are…

Jack’s record label (Brizo Media Group) is currently releasing “The Archives Series” – new albums made from old out-of-print releases, bootlegs, demo sessions, live recordings and previously unreleased tracks from Jack’s long career in the music industry. Six new digital releases appeared on Bandcamp today. Five of the titles are from when Jack was age 9 through 13 – very interesting recordings to see how he developed as an artist.

Some highlights: “Age 9” shows Jack was already (for his age) a skilled country blues slide guitarist, “Age 10” includes a vaudeville style comedy routine, “Age 11” shows the influence of Tiny Tim on Jack’s uke playing and vocal delivery, “Age 12” sheds light on the influence of Leon Redbone as Jack’s guitar teacher and hero and “Age 13” includes legendary traditional jazz musician Vince Giordano at a jam session with Jack. Plus, the artwork for these five special albums is pretty incredible! 😉

Here are the latest from “The Archives Series” by Jack Norton…

“When I Was 9 Years Old” (single) – previously unreleased
“When I Was 10 Years Old” (EP) – previously unreleased
“When I Was 11 Years Old” (LP) – previously unreleased
“When I Was 12 Years Old” (LP) – previously unreleased
“When I Was 13 Years Old” (LP) – previously unreleased
“Love Is Dumb” (LP) – previously unreleased

January 14, 2019

Jack NortonJack’s new solo album of hokum blues, ragtime, vaudeville folk and lost gems from the 1920s and 1930s is now available!

The songs on this album are a throwback to Jack’s days as a “busker”, singing for tips on the streets of Toronto and Detroit. Recorded with two vintage microphones on tape in a small cabin in rural Manitoba, Canada. Truly a solo album, Jack is the only musician on this release – scatting, yodeling and crooning his way through the tunes while playing guitar, ukulele, mouth trumpet and stomp box. The sparse production, raw recording and vintage hiss of the reel-to-reel tape deck make for a refreshing and relaxing stroll down memory lane. Beatnik jive and vaudevillian hokum make this album strikingly original and honest. For track listing and more info, click here.
